Heading away somewhere and realise you don’t have some of the equipment you think you’ll need? We have a large range of essential light weight quality hiking equipment for hire at very reasonable rates. Hiring allows you to not only sample some of the items we sell in store, but gives you access to high quality equipment for those one off occasions where you may require items such as PLBs*, crampons, ice axes or snowshoes. So if you need to hire a pack, tent, sleeping bag, rain jacket or sleeping mat - Bogong is the place to come.

Minimum Booking Period
As our gear is designed to be used on overnight adventures in the bush outside of Melbourne, the minimum booking period is 2 days. There is no extra charge for the 3rd and 4th day, allowing you to have a full weekend trip and return the gear on Monday. Subsequent days are then charged at a reduced daily rate.

Book In Advance
During busy periods such as the Easter and Christmas breaks it is important to get in early as our equipment is quickly booked out. Simply book online to make sure you get what you need.

Cancellation Policy
If your plans change and you no longer need your hire, please let us know as soon as possible. Cancellations made before the beginning of the hire period will receive a refund of the full amount, minus the 3.5% booking fee.

Gear Pickup and Return
All gear pickup and return is at Bogong Equipment, 374 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, during our opening hours. (We do not post hire gear.)

Public Holiday Closures - please note that Bogong will be closed on the following Public Holidays:
New Year's Day, Australia Day, Labour Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, ANZAC Day, King's Birthday, Grand Final Friday, Melbourne Cup Day, Christmas Day. 
No hire gear pickup or dropoff on those days.

FAQs:

I would like to pick up my gear the day before my trip and return it the day after. Do I need to book the pickup day and the dropoff day?

Yes, you should book for the days that you need the gear. That way you can make sure the gear is not being used by someone else.

For example: Sarah is going on a bushwalk to the Cathedral Range on Saturday and Sunday, but she needs to pick up the gear on Friday and return it on Monday to make the most of her weekend. Sarah books from Friday to Monday.

Can I get the pickup and dropoff days for free?

Yes! Our system automatically includes a free pickup day and dropoff day for any booking of 4 days or more!

I am hiring gear over a long weekend. Do I have to pay extra?

Long weekends are our most popular times for gear hire. We do not charge any “peak” surcharge for long weekends, but you will usually need to pay for an extra day as the weekend is longer.

For example: Labour Day weekend in March.

You would book from Friday until Tuesday (you cannot return the gear on the Monday as we are closed for the public holiday.) You will be charged 3 days for this 5 day booking. The first and last days are free.
